Cleaning a coop/ run area

Hello
I'm new to owning ducks, I have 2 Swedish Blues named Gustav & Sylvia, they are so much fun!!!! & they have since graduated to a fun large coop that has a run/ play area that is outside. My question is.... Today was they're first day out in the run & I feel I underestimated how much poo I would be dealing with. I have them in a nice spot in the yard on our fake grass..... I would hope to find out the easiest way to clean this up since it's not your average grass/ dirt situation.

2 Nd question is can they be around sand??
I thought about that as an alternative
But I'm concerned with consumption, can this hurt them?
