We have a female white call that is going to 4H. My son got a male call to go with her to be shown (so we have not had him since he was a baby). He is dirty. We have had him a month. He is swimming in fresh clean water, he is fed quality feed, give treats. But his feathers are so nasty grey/brown dingy from where he had been in a different living situation. We were told to wash him in Dawn dish soap. I am not opposed to doing that as I use it to bathe my hairless cats... But I wanted others' opinions first. Pretty please :D Oh, the 4H sign in is a week from tomorrow!

I recommend a three step process.

What you need:

Liquid Ivory or Liquid Castille soap (Antibacterial if you dont have these)
Bleach 1/2 Teaspoon (White Chickens or if Mite Problem is present)
Vinegar
Water (lots of it)

Have three gallon containers in the first put an adequate amount of soap and lukewarm water. 2nd: Just lukewarm Water (add the Bleach for white chickens) and 3rd: add 2 cups of vinegar to a gallon of lukewarm water.

This is enough for a small flock or one really dirty bird LOL. Just wash with the first, rinse with the second and rinse again with the vinegar mix.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! We will try this tonight as I have read similar processes as well, but wanted to hear from experience first LOL! I will let you know how it goes. Poor guy is just filthy :(

I forgot to take before pics. But that is ok because after looks the same. I think we need to soak him longer... Maybe try tomorrow if he doesn't hate us too bad LOL
