My chickens live with my goats (they have their own section but they don't stay in it). One of our (goat) kids had coccidiosis so he was having diarrhea, and I guess the chickens got into it. Their feathers are clumped and it's pretty gross.

Anyways I was wondering, can you give a chicken a bath? I have 2 hens, and a new 5 week old hen that I rescued from a fair.

Do you just run them under water or what? Oh and how do you get feathers to grow back? The one I just rescued is in pretty rough condition.

Thanks for the help!

You can wash them with pet shampoo or a mild dish washing soap and towel or blow dry them. Show chickens are washed all the time. The feathers will grow back on their own. Increased protein can help with feather growth

Noseychicken is right. You can bath them in the sink or a tub of warm water. Only deep enough that if they sit down their back is still above water. Do not leave them alone in the water because they can sometimes go to sleep and there heads will go under and drown. The warm water really relaxes them. I use Dawn detergent. It is know to clean anything and it kills some external parasites. They use Dawn to clean animals after oil spills so that should prove it will work good. Just make sure they are dried good.
