Cleaning navel of newly hatched chicks???

Just wondering if you need to clean the umbilical stump of chicks after they hatch? What do you use for it, just regular old iodine solution?

That's a good question. I don't worry about it unless the didn't absorb properly. For those with a nasty looking umbilicus, I will dribble some betadine or chlorhexidine on it.
