What's the easiest and effective way to clean out old gas cans.I must have 15 gas and diesel cans and most have residue/old gas in them. Some of the double wall cans seem to have liquid between the walls.
And while I am on the gas can topic, is there a good, somewhat universal aftermarket cap that is easy to use (no childproofing)?

To clean up gas, we've used Dawn dishwashing soap and hot water. I would think any dishwashing soap would work though. If there's sediment, toss in a bunch of small rocks, cover, and shake.
For what's between the walls, I'd throw that one away as there must be a leak. Unless they make something, you can squirt in there like fix-a-flat works but by the time you bought that, you probably could buy a new can.

As for caps, if you search Amazon for universal gas caps there were quite a few sets of them, mostly with spouts.

I did buy a set of replacement caps on amazon but they were poorly made and leaky.
