cleaning out the brooder

the weather hasn't cooperated with us so i don't have my coop built yet and i've got my 6 week old chicks still in their brooder and they are getting rather impatient and i've noticed they are created quite a bit of dust/dander and i was wondering if there was something i could use to help control it until i get them outside i have noticed if i leave the ceiling fan on low it's much better but that causes to much of a draft on the little ones. i'm also going to put my younger chicks in the big brooder once i get the big ones outside. I know they have sprays for cats and dogs and horses but wasn't sure what i could use with chickens.

I had to move mine out to the shed when the dust just got too overwhelming.

However, I did find this post (can't remember who wrote it) that I had saved "for future reference."

They use a fan and tie a filter to it. I'm guessing you could have the fan blow out through a window opening to keep the draft down.

This is what they wrote:


To help with the dust problem, get a large box fan and zip tie a new furnace filter (a good filter) to the fan. The air should be sucked through the filter by the fan. Put the fan/filter in the chick’s room. Turn the fan on low-medium, depending on the size of room or number of chicks. Change filter as needed.

my girls are in my hubbys shop i couldn't keep them in the house. i know my grandfather used something in the barn but i can't remember what it was
