The wood is still damp in the pic but that’s how they all look.. That’s as clean as I could get with 50/50 water & cleaning vinegar and a crappy brush. I’m gonna pick up a better brush at the store and go at them again

If I were to paint them is there a preferred paint type? Is normal exterior paint sufficient?

I like the dish tray idea a lot I’ll definitely try to find some trays that’ll fit in my boxes.

I like barn paint.

It's made to be put onto unprimed, rough wood.

I like porch and floor paint. My coop floors have it on them and even after 8+ years it is still holding up.

Regular exterior will get scratched off pretty quickly with eager to lay birds nails on it. I know cause I tried it in a communal nest box experiment.

I forget if you were talking inside your coop or outside.

Old fashioned whitewash is also an option for inside.
