okay, our chickens are making it over a 6ft. high fence. we need to clip their wings. tonight we picked one up and just tried to spread her wings out to look at what we had to do. she was freaking out and we couldn't keep her wings open. how do you hold them to clip their wings? thank you, vinnie

I think it would be very hard without help. Have someone hold the bird and someone else clip the wing.

Word of advice : ONLY CLIP ONE WING!! It sounds like common sense, but many people clip both anyway...

We only have one that has to be clipped and she is really friendly, so maybe this won't help with your chicken, but...

Hold her with her head towards your arm pit and with your elbow, hold her body against yours. It may be helpful to have her legs between your legs. With the other hand, bring the wing that free out. With the elbow holding the body, the hand should be free to hold the wing. This allows the other arm to be completely for for scissors.

You might be able to wrap her in a towel with the one wing out so that she is restrained, but you can still clip her wing.

Good luck!

Here's a link to the Learning Center about wing clipping. It may help, although it doesn't answer your specific question.

I haven't tried it, but maybe if you put something over the chickens head to keep her in the dark she would stay calmer. It works for a lot of animals.
