should I or shouldn't I clip toe nails???? they are free ranging so they get to scratch in the dirt A LOT so is that sufficient to keep their nails trimed????

It is for awhile, but I find I have to trim my older hens. Just look for the quick, and cut a little past that, very hard to see, so I leave mine long. Once I accidentally cut to the quick and it was bleeding, yikes! I felt so bad. I just use scissors but I am thinking of getting dog nail clippers, might be easier.
Is only one of the 6 year old hens I have to trim. I did the other 6 year olds once, but only the one hens nails grow so much. She's even starting to act older now, she has problems with her legs and nails.
