is it safe? does it hurt them? any bad things about it? my grandpa told me to just cut its feathers on one wing but idk i really dont want to hurt them

If you do it correctly it doesn't hurt them per say, but why would you want to do it? What type/s of birds do you have?

Well I would wait untill they are at least fully mature, not as chicks. Then try to think of it as a simple hair cut. I don't know much else (besides what Iv read) so hopefully someone with much more experience than I can help you.

I read recently that you shouldn't clip the wings, except as a last resort. If you don't have "fliers" (as I call them), then there really is no need to clip their wings. And yes, I'd wait until they are older. If you do decide to clip, just clip the flight feathers on one side. This will make the chicken off balance when it does try to fly.
