Phew! what a close call that was last week!

we have a buff cochin female young pullet(still in the brooder box) named Pumpkin, and a young black female EE chick(still in the brooder box, too). When we found out they had lice last October, we took them out of the house and put them and the brooder box in our barely used camper. We decided it would be perfect; they had a light and a good place to stay, and we wouldn't risk getting lice. Although we didn't know that chicken lice couldn't affect humans.

After we found out about this(here, of course!

) we decided to leave them out, since it was working so well.
But, the past weeks have been FREEZING up here!

We have been trying our best to keep the chicks warm. And I know it was dumb to not bring them in sooner, but one night their light went out.

The next morning, when I went out to feed them, I saw it had went out and thought, "Oh no! what if they froze!?" But when I looked into the box, Raven and Pumpkin were there to greet me.

PHEW! I immediately told my dad about it, and we brought the chicks back inside...we now just have to be careful about the lice spreading to the parakeets and finches! So we do our best to keep them away from them. We are currently trying to get rid of the lice right now; it has decreased some(not as many little eggs in their feathers) after we used the dust.
But anyway, I think the poor chicks didn't freeze because they are not as small anymore, and they probably huddled together. I feel guilty that we didn't bring them in sooner.

But now, they are safe(and warm!) in their broody box in my bedroom.

They are doing pretty good.

Thanks for reading!
P.S. Now that Pumpkin is inside, we get to let her walk around. She has also become a couch potato; when i take her out and let her sit on my lap while watching TV, she loves watching it, too!

Such a crazy chick.

So the babies are 3 months old or older now? If so, they are probably old enough now to withstand freezing temps overnight! No need to worry. Draft free and 20F is just fine.

Ya. 3-4 months old now. But their box was SOO cold when we brought it inside! It was about -10*F outside at the time.
