I let my 5 week olds out of they're cage and into the coop to run about while the big girls where out ranging. and hubby had put some fresh cut grass into the run so the big girls wanted back in. so i opened the door and let them in(to the run) thinkin they would go right to the grass and went to the back coop door to grab the chicks and put them back in there cage. but my little gray came runnin in which was fine cause she could care less about the chicks, but then my dominate RIR came in and at first she just wanted a piece of fruit i had put out for the chicks then all a sudden she went after the chick very aggressivly. thank goodness i manage to put my arm up and push her out the drop door before one of them got hurt. I guess now i learned my lesson- chicks first then big girls back in.
so when would it be safe to let them out together?, this gave me a shock cause i moved the chick cage into the coop with them a couple days ago, and so far it didnt seem like the girls really cared, but it was a diffrent story when she saw them out of the cage.
