Today I let my BA hen and her 5 week old chicks out of the broody coop today so they could run around for a few hours. While I was outside one of my cats decided to make one of the chicks a snack! I look over and the hen is flying at the cat and she takes off. It takes me a second to realize she has one of the chicks in her mouth! I chase after her and she finally drops it, surprisingly the chick is scared, but fine. Anyone have a method for breaking cats of killing chicks? I did lock her in the coop with mom for a minute and let the hen attack her a few times to hopefully scare her away from the birds. If she does it again she will have to find a new home. Any other methods to discourage this behavior will be greatly appreciated.
