I have a Welsummer who recently started keeping one eye shut. Checked her over last night, and it seems almost like there’s something under the eye... hard to tell.
She’s eating and drinking, but not running around as much, which I believe is because she can’t see as well. I think she doesn’t feel good though.

I’m not the type to freak out too much, but after seeing it, I remembered hearing two of my BRs sneezing a couple days ago.

I have LA200, but I’m not comfortable giving injections yet.
I really don’t think I’m ready to hear all the “respiratory/Mareks/Coryza/MG” comments. But I am concerned.

Should I try a warm compress?
Is there anything I’m not thinking of?

She’s a second year, recently went through a small soft molt, recently went broody but broke a few weeks ago.
Layer pellets, scratch, mealies.
Enclosed run, with free range about an hour before bedtime.
She goes to roost just fine, but recently is later getting down in the morning.

Looks and sounds like a start of an upper respiratory infection such as Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, Coryza or infectious bronchitis. Treat the birds affected with antibiotics. Antibiotics will help with the symptoms, but won’t cure as there isn’t a cure for any respiratory diseases in chickens. Unfortunately any of your birds affected will remain carriers for life and will shed and show symptoms again within times of stress.

Use the saline eye wash, and look for any bubbles or foam in the eye and any nasal drainage. Take a picture if you see something unusual. Take her off the roost and try getting her to eat some wet chicken feed and perhaps a little cooked egg. Onserve her more closely today, perhaps separate her in a dog crate with food and water. She could have been pecked or is being picked on.
