Closing coop door (or not)

I was wondering the same thing. We are going to put plastic around our run so I hope I can leave it open all year. The chickens get up way before us and like to hang out in the run until we open the door.

We used to leave the door open to until we had a visit from a bobcat. Around 8:00 in the morning a few weeks ago my chickens were making so much noise they woke up my teenage daughter. She went to see what was going on and saw a huge bobcat circling the run. The bobcat saw her and jump over our 6ft wood fence and was gone. The chickens were scared but fine!! The bobcat could not find a way into the run.

We feel our run is secure but it happened so fast we decided to be extra safe and close the door at night because the bobcat now knows were our chickens are. Don't know what we are going to do in a few weeks when we have to go out of town but we will figure out something.
