When one of my two geese laid her first eggs, I was thrilled. My other goose stood watch over the nest, and I was sure it was a breeding pair. But as the eggs kept coming -- and coming and coming -- I was horrified at the thought of 18 goslings to house and feed!

Finally, I realized that BOTH geese were laying. While I was a bit disappointed not to have adorable babies, the rational side of me said, "thank goodness!"

Every time I even think about getting a gander, I have to remember how productive my ladies are and talk myself out of the idea. A couple of goslings is cute; a dozen and a half is total overload for me.
