Cloverr's flock of floofs

Oakley

Oakley is a silkie mix. She's the daughter of Zombie and Fluffy. So many people have told me she looks gorgeous and everyone always asks what breed she is. She has inspired me to start a new breed project. I originally thought she was a cockerel, because her comb started developing at 2 weeks old. She was also pretty big and liked to stand tall. These days she still has a pretty dominant personality. She used to bully her mom by plucking her feathers.

Oh my word she is GORGEOUS

I had to rehome Blue because he was a cockerel. This year I've hatched around 28 chicks I think and I still have one broody with 5 eggs.
The chicks I plan on keeping are:
June
Beautiful blue pullet. Mother is Smokey. It does look like she has silver leakage, but her legs and crest make up for it. I think she has the best legs out of all my hens so far. Now around 10 weeks old.

Ruby
June's younger sister. Another blue pullet. She is not just Smokey's daughter but was actually hatched by her. I found out Smokey isn't a great mother when she left her chicks at 4 weeks old. And now she's broody again... A week later the 5 week olds were adopted by Chrissy who had been broody for a while with no luck. Ruby is now 7 weeks old.

Draco
My first and so far only paint silkie. I'm still hoping it's a pullet, but if not I'll have to keep 2 roosters in my silkie flock. Draco is 7 weeks old and is from the same batch as Ruby. Draco's spots are small but hopefully his chicks will have better spots. I'm really hoping Draco doesn't get that red leakage on the wings like Cloud has. Breeding a paint has been my goal for a while now. I was beginning to lose hope Cloud only gave me blue, cuckoo and plain white chicks, so this one surprised me.

Now the smallest chicks I have. It can't be known for sure how they'll look when they're older however this is what I'm thinking right now.

Onyx
Zombie's son. He's in a project I'm working on.

Onell
Not sure about this one yet. If she feathers out just like Oakley I might keep her. I'm not a fan of the fact she's bearded, but so is Onyx. They should hopefully only have 1 copy of the gene and therefore only half their chicks would have it.

Black silkie cockerel. Not sure if I want to keep 1 or 2 yet. More likely 1 but I want to see them grow up first.

Just when I think I'm done hatching chicks for the year I somehow end up with more chicks.

Misty went broody and I gave her around 11 silkie eggs. My silkie eggs are rarely fertilized, so it didn't surprise me when only 5 out of 11 were developing. One of the eggs died soon after. One of those 4 remaining eggs was a couple days younger than the rest. When the first three had hatched Misty decided to get off the eggs. Luckily Smokey was broody and sitting in the box right next to Misty. Smokey already hatched and raised a batch of 5 chicks earlier this year. I put that last egg under Smokey. The youngest of Misty's chicks seems to have went to Smokey instead. Now both hens have 2 chicks. Misty has 2 white and Smokey has 2 blueish-brownish ones with a lighter head. The light skinned white chick I think might be a silkie mix. I can tell apart my brahma's eggs from the silkie eggs, so this one is either Oakley/Cloud (but all of hers with Cloud always have dark skin and 5 toes) or Chrissy/Cloud, but I've never hatched a Chrissy chick before. I guess it could get darker skin as it grows, but that still wouldn't explain the lack of extra toes.

Each picture is a different chick.
