Club Penguin for nintendo ds

Anyone know how to buy puffles in this game? My youngest son just got it as a birthday present and he wants to buy a puffle, but we can't figure out how to do it. Thanks for any help!

In the one online you go to the pet shop.

Yeah, we can get to the pet shop, but there isn't an obvious way to then adopt one. You can click on them with your stylus and they will give you a coin. You can click on the penguin in the shop and they just say something generic about the shop, but I don't see a way to buy one. Maybe he just doesn't have enough coins and you can't see how to do it until you do have enough...?
