Cluck & Chirp

Oddly, I would have assumed Google would have this answer. But not really....

My chicks are in their 11th week. And some are chirping, some are clucking. Some struggle to chirp and make weird noises. So, why is it that chickens can't chirp after a certain age and start clucking? Like teenagers with a changing voice I suppose. But I'm just curious, will they all stop chirping and only ever cluck henceforth?

Maybe they go from speaking chick to speaking chicken. Or maybe it's like a baby human, like how babies make noises but then they start speaking. If only we had a chicken language translator...

That 'honking' they sometimes do in between always cracks me up!
