Greetings-- I joined this group because I am an advocate of backyard (and front yard farming/gardening). I am the Director of Urban Harvest - an urban agriculture program of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. We concentrate on helping community gardens get started and help to sustain them, crop gleaning from local farmers, and sustainable gardening education to the local community. We maintain an interesting small farm at the Food Bank which includes an edible landscape, small orchard, demonstration vegetable growing gardens, a greenhouse and season extension hoop house. In the greenhouse I operate an aquaponic system that grows Tilapia and circulates the water through plant growing beds. I also operate a large worm composting operation and process large amount of compost through traditional composting areas.

My interest in Backyard Chickens is currently due to the fact that in OKC chickens are not allowed although there is a current movement to change this. (one of our composting volunteers is leading the chicken charge in this fight). I have one rabbit that lives over some of our worm bins but I would at some point like to add a Chicken Tractor out in our fields - but cannot at this time. I also am planning on building my own little farm in the near future and intend to have chickens and guinea fowl when I do.

So I am here to lend support to the cause of backyard chickens and to learn - as I move toward my own person goals..
