Hello Chicken Friends! ;-)
I've been lurking here for a while and checking out all the fabulous resources. I just re-vamped a very old chicken house (bigger than a coop, about 15' by 18'). I've pretty much gotten things together, but I'm still fine-tuning things. I hatched some of my flock from eggs, but had an old crappy cheapo incubator, which had some problems, so I didn't have a great hatch rate. I ended up buying some more chicks to fill in. I have 8 Buff Orpingtons, 8 Easter Eggers and 22 Black Copper Marans. (They'd only ship 18 chicks or more, and my local hatchery didn't have BCMs. Plus they didn't offer just pullets, so I ended up with 18. I figure about half will be roosters, and I only really want one rooster. So if anyone is in my area and needs a BCM rooster, let me know! As soon as they get old enough for me to tell, I plan on getting rid of the extra roosters. And I really don't want to have them butchered... I'll be glad to give away the extras!
I pretty much figured I was crazy because I go out and sit with my girls and talk to them and watch them. Glad to know I'm not the only one! ;-) I'm looking forward to seeing all the cool things you're all doing with your flocks. Thanks for all the help you've been so far. I know I can come here and look something up and learn all about it. I appreciate all of you with experience and even those without. ;-) It's great to learn from you all!
