Hi everyone. I love all the fantastic advice you all have to offer! I especially love the broad spectrum of people and reasons to raise chickens. After 15 years, I finally "hen-pecked" my hubby enough to let me get my chickens.
It's a long story, I'll make it short. We have an 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son. A few years ago, we built them a treehouse. It sat vacant because it had spiders. The tree died, so we had it cut down and miraculously, the tree house landed in such a way that it survived. It then became a club house, which sat vacant, because of, again, the spiders. So, we got a dog, and it sat vacant, because no one wanted to go near it, because of ... the spiders. That's when I suggested we put chickens in it. SCORE!
It fits a dozen chickens with the chain link dog run attached. We went out on father's day to a local farm and bought 8 barnyard mutts. I never ever dreamed that chickens were so much fun. And, guess what? Now the kids are in the tree house/club house/coop all day because the spiders are gone. I am looking forward to our first eggs.... hopefully in a week or so!
