Hello, BYC community!
I'm new to the site as well as to the idea of raising chickens on my own. (I used to help my grandfather tend to his birds, but that was many years ago.) I don't quite have my chickies yet, and I'm just now starting to build my little coop, but I've found so many great resources on this site already that I felt I should join in with all of you other good folks here on the forums.
I already have my breeds picked out, and I know where I'm getting them. Yay! I don't plan on having a huge flock, maybe eight hens at most, but I'm already super-excited about the prospect. I know I'm going to have a couple of Buff Orpingtons, a couple of Rhode Island Reds, and hopefully at least one Aracauna (please forgive any bad spelling). The rooster... I'm not too sure which breed he's going to be quite yet.

I'm not particular about keeping my birds purebred, just healthy farm stock is all I'm after. Good, hardy layers is my main goal.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello to you all, and can't wait to talk chickens!
