hi everyone! I'm excited to finally post here, but wanted to say thanks to all the current and former members who shared so much experience. I never would have been able to do this without you guys. I didn't think it would happen, but I've callen in love with the chickens. In March, we bought 10 pullets.. My mom always kept RIRs, so I fig it would be the best option. Plus, I wasn't really fond of her broody little things, but I love eggs. Then they grew these bright orange feathers. I was angry, till someone showed me that it could be a good thing... And taught me about production reds... Ah ha. Seems to me that they are bipolar. One minute they are sweet and curious, but very territorial. I introduced 2 bantams and only have one now. dog crates are awesome. I recently acquired 3 Easter eggers. One is violet looking. Blue, I think. But, my clock will grow, and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like your flock is growing bigger and bigger all the time! Good luck with the introducing of the new birds. That sure is not a easy thing to go through. Hopefully it's not too stressful for you!

Thanks everyone! And mountain peeps.. I have a system set up that allows me to introduce new birds painlessly. I have a dog crate that I repurpose into an introduction cage. The new birds stay in it a whole week. I start letting them out for short periods in the evening the next week, then leave it open all the time and available the week after that. It teaches the birds where home is, while allowing the rest of the flock to free range. It works incredibly well, and is the most efficient and humane way I have found to do it. Maybe I'll make a video on it one of these days.

Glad you joined us! Introducing new birds is one of my favorite parts of raising chickens. I hope it all goes well for you. Enjoy your flock! :-)
