Just ordered a chicken coop and run for our riverside garden. We're new to chicken keeping and we're going to start with 3 Sussex or similar depending on what the local chicken market has on offer on 20th of this month.

We're based in France where keeping a few hens appears to be the norm.

The idea is to keep our Chambre d'Hôte (bed and breakfast) supplied with eggs but also to have some feathery pets. They will have names and we aren't planning on any ending up in the pot - we may have a retirement coop though :)

We have a history (way back) in farming so know the basics around hygiene, worming, vaccination, disease etc but we're sure to have many dumb questions on keeping the girls happy.

Hi Bob & Karen, it's nice to have you here!

There are some great articles in the Learning Center that can help you get started.
learning-center.11 Always feel free to ask questions, there are a lot of helpful members here.

Best of luck with your new venture!

G’Day from down under Bob and Karen :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
