Hello all,

My chickens are about 4 months old now. They seem to only care for the "coarser" parts of the starter/grower mash that I give. This makes for a lot of waist. Is there another brand out there that does not contain as much "powder" as my Purina brand? They go crazy over "scratch" but that is only a treat for them.

Thanks!
Bob

At four months I wouldn't offer scratch. The crumbles mixed for growth have the better blend and the scratch may be influencing the birds to peck at larger bits. I'd phase out the scratch completely, and observe the birds. Hopefully this will solve the problem!

Several members use the Dumor brand. I have no experience with it. We're lucky here because the provincial feedmaster for the ACA Co-Op lives down the road and mixes the poultry feeds in the mill we use. He'll mix custom and can explain what he's doing and why...I just do what he says and my birds are healthy and happy.
