Hello all I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me some guidance.
I have a 3.5 month old RIR pullet.
Four days ago she didn't look or act right.
Three days ago I noticed she was lethargic and sleepy acting
Two days ago she was really lethargic and had runny bight yellow poop (no need to post a link to the poop chart). Some poop was clinging to her feathers. Her tail and wings were drooped. She seemed sleepy but was still eating and drinking although slowly. I gave her some plain yogurt and hopped on the internet and called around searching for answers. I came to the conclusion of Cocci but now I am not so sure.
So anyway I give her the yogurt. By the time I was done goggling all the shops were closed. Next morning she seemed a little better. I gave her a bit more yogurt and added a bit of medicated starter feed to her pellets. I switched the girls over to pellets 4 days prior to all this and thought well, maybe she is just not eating enough? After work I headed to Tractor Supply and asked them. They also said cocci and handed me some Duramycin 10. That did not sound right to me but I bought it and left. Thankfully I researched some more when I got home and learned Duramycin 10 can make things worse! Called around and everyone is out of Corid until this Friday(tomorrow) great. I go out to check on her and she looks even better now. ??? Give her some more yogurt...
This morning she is acting almost normal?? I am so confused. Do you think is is/was cocci? Do you think I should give her Corid or should I keep an eye on her and stop stressing so much?
Here is a rundown of her.
She is one of 4 pullets the other girls are lively feisty and seem very healthy.
When she was 6 weeks she started spending the days outside in a large dog crate.
When she was 8 weeks we put her out in her run/coop
the run is 4' x 16' only dirt and grass but last weekend we added some grass clippings for them to nibble on and look for bugs. The soil is a little damp but not to bad.
the coop has a footprint of 4' x 4' and has a layer of pine shavings. The girls roost in it at night.
About one week ago we switched from medicated starter crumbles to pellets. (added some starter crumbles back into the food two days ago in hopes she would eat a little bit better)
They have a litter box with some sand and DE for a dust bath. All the girls use it.
For treats every other day they get corn on the cob and two apples. They also love earwigs. Every time the coop door is open they gorge themselves on the earwigs that hide under the door.
They started free ranging in the garden the first day I noticed she seemed off. They pick at the grass, grape leaves, borage flowers, sunflower leaves, and bugs. OH there is a small herb garden up against the run they like to eat on. It is made up of tarragon, mint, marjoram, cilantro, and tyme.
Every now and then they get scrambled eggs with ground flax seed and salsa. They also get yoghurt now and then( a lot the last three days)
Any Ideas about what is going on? I am new to this but it did sound and look like Cocci.
This morning she was running around...
Oh two more things her crop felt fine no stinky breath. Also despite being a month older than the other girls I noticed she looks a little smaller. Buff Orpington 2.5 months old, French Black Copper Maran 3 months old, and a 3 month old Ameraucana. She is a Rhode island Red. NO ONE IS PICKING ON HER.
