Thanks for all of y'all input! I moved them into my basement and they are way more active! I changed out the food I put in every day from the start. Hopefully this fixes it.

Change out the food? I'm not certain I follow. The adult beetles will lay eggs right in the substrate / food.

I put slices of veggies in the box's for them to get water from.

We raised mealworms at a pet shop I worked at. I don't now remember much about it, but we kept a layer of damp newspaper on top of the mealworm food. We used layer mash to feed them.

I love being a freerange mealworm growing Aussie.
Put the mealworms in the avairy (with the finches and quail)
Do not suffer from (the floor must look like I have swept it) but let a layer of husks cover part of the floor.
Make sure this is near where the water bowls overflow on auto retic.
watch the birds eat some, while the others keep breeding.
Continue in this manner for 30yrs.
