I have a amber link hen about 1 year old,not sure if this is the one who has thin shell eggs.I noticed she was standing in a puddle of water for 2 days,dh helped me get her into the laundry tub where i gave her a warm soak ,feathers were ugly back there, she was not mean to me ,closed her eyes at times, put mineral oil inernal in her.I did notice when she pooped it was water like,no blood in it.I have had egg bound hen inpast, and had a bout with cocci last year.I do not know how to treat,oh i was able to get her to eat a few bites of yougart,i now have her in a seperate pen. Any help i will gladly accept.

Have you wormed her at all? Any lice or mites? A little hard to guess with the symptoms posted. Now that you have her separated, have you noticed anything else? Is she straining and pushing like she is trying to lay an egg? Keep trying to get her to eat. Mine love scrambled eggs when they are not feeling well. Cooked oatmeal may also encourage her. Try to post more info when you can. Good luck!

If she is sluggish, not eating and her bottom feathers are poo covered then I would say egg bound or internal laying. Does her belly feel fluid filled like a balloon? If she laid an egg internally and it is stuck then the bath is supposed to help, but if it has burst inside her and caused infection then I don't know what, if anything, can be done for her. look around and see what others have done. I guess you can try penicillin, but the problem is likely to return and you may be in the same boat again with her. That's just what I have read about egg peritonitis, no real personal experience with that here.

I think it might be cocci, since i have her seperate she is drinking a lot,i put corid in her water,i got her to eat more yougert. The one systom of cocci is thirst, but then the feather by the vent, but the watery poo could do that too.I have a better chance of saving her if it is cocci, but then again i lost one due to cocci last year. Why does everything have to happen when my dh is forced to work 16 hrs?Thank u
