Cocci or Mareks? Chickens not standing

If it proves to be Mareks, then complete recovery is not likely. I have nursed several back standing but none lived more than a year. Form I have dealt with is not all that prone to spread but isolating infected is advised. Feces often but not always changed one infection hit. Cocci seldom causes loss of walking ability and birds bounce back from it usually completely. Cocci infected birds stunt but usually catch up with broodmates in size which surprised me a great deal.

Sometimes these things are wait and see and it's hard. I guess we all do the best we can, and try to narrow down all the possibilities of illnesses.

There are a few illnesses that can cause some paralysis. With Marek's, I've found that they waste, when they eat it's like they can't aim at the food, so it never gets picked up.

Alaska chicks, I hope it's not Marek's. I did have one vaccinated (x2) for Marek's and develop paralysis at about 8 weeks old. She did recover after about 6 weeks. She did eat well during that time. We still have her and she lays eggs. But I've had to euthanize so many that I don't think she even makes 1%.

Eggcessive, you are being too kind! You included, we are a big bunch of obsessive people who obsessively study some illness we've dealt with and want to help anyone we can.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate hearing your experiences and knowledge - especially as a newbie to chicken raising. I'm in the wait an see now. The sickest one may be on a downward spiral. She won't eat much and having more, not less trouble with her legs and now a wing seems to have paralysis. I have more hope for the other, who is still getting around and eating well. Thanks again.

Hi Alaska - im in a similar situation with one of my older layers. She's about a year and a half old. Do you have an update on yours? What was the outcome. Hoping for good news.
