One of my friends said that my chick looked like it had coccidiosis after looking at the stool. I’ve been treating all 4 chicks with Corid with the suggested treatment that I found on here. Tomorrow is the last day of treatment. One of my chicks (The one that has always been the most concerning) looked like this when I checked on her this morning. She always sounds like she is in pain when she is defecating and it’s definitely a struggle for her. She walks around and eats and drinks but does seem to be a little hunched over compared to the others. I got 4 chicks from rural King on Christmas Eve but I’m not sure how old they were when I purchased them. I’m not sure if the Corid is not working or if there’s something different going on altogether. Someone suggested treating with a different brand of medication but I’d like more info/help.

The second picture is a picture of another chick’s stool when I was changing out their pine shavings. I just wasn’t sure if it was related or not.

Any insight would help as I am a new chick mama with very little knowledge.

Welcome To BYC!

I'm sorry about your chick! Poor thing.
Have you notice if any of the other chicks are picking at her vent?
To me, that's frank blood that I would associate with injury or possibly irritation or constipation. The poop photos look like normal Cecal Poop to me.

For your little one, clean her up. Wash her bottom in a little warm soapy water, then take some photos of her vent so we can see it a little better. We may be able to tell if it's damaged or not.

Is she drinking well?
What are you feeding your chicks, including treats?
What dosage of Corid have you given them?

Thanks for the welcome! I’m hoping to learn a lot! I have already.
I am feeding them a medicated chick feed and have not given them treats yet. I have given them 1/2t of Corid in a qt and then dropped to 1/8t.
It’s hard to say how much she is drinking but I did see her drinking today.
I finally got a good picture of her pooping today. It’s been similar to this for a while but definitely getting worse. It looks so painful. I’m thinking it’s something else entirely.
She does tend to pick at it to help her poop along which is certainly not helping. It takes her a while to get it out. I have not seen any of the other three chicks messing with her though although I’m considering separating her just in case.

I agree that her vent looks bloody possibly from pecking, but it also appears dilated and pooched out as if she is constipated. I would give her plenty of water, and if you have some plain yogurt with live cultures, give a little of that in some wet chick feed. I would be tempted also to give 1/2 tsp of coconut oil (made cold in the fridge for a few minutes to make it hard) chopped into little piece for her to peck. Coconut oil is good to help with constipation. Some chicks will eat pine shavings and it could be that she is stopped up, but she might also have something else going on.
