Hi,
I've got 4 baby chicks that have been outside for a few weeks now. Yesterday I first observed bloody poop. I couldn't figure out what it was and none of the chickens looked like they were bleeding. Today I realized it was bloody poop and likely coccidiosis. I scooped up my 2 favorite chicks and put them inside, in a box, with some medicated food and clean water. No idea what med is in the food - it was given to me when I got the chicks from a breeder @ 2 weeks of age.

But what should I do now? Clean the coop, I think. What else? Buy some meds for the chicks? How long should they be medicated? What should I expect to happen next?

Thanks
Jill

Get some Sulmet or Corid at your local ag store ASAP. Cocci overload can be deadly in young birds. A quick course of either should clean up the problem. The dosing should be on the bottle. I don't know it off the top of my head.

Good luck.

If you can try to get Corid over sulmet, it is less harsh on their system.
