Hey guys,

I'm looking to get people knowledge of administering Cocciprol via syringe to my sick boy who is about 3 months old, if I had to guess (maybe 4). Does anybody know the safe dose for administering a single chick by needless syringe? I have separated him, tick! I have cleaned and disinfected the box, tick! I have replaced the bedding and burnt the old, tick! I have also treated the rest of his pen mates, tick! This one however is WAY worse then others. Bloody stool, worse! I wasn't home yesterday so I didnt notice him till this morning. I understand it could be too late but I'm definitely going to try and do what I can so if anyone knows or has any tips and tricks, I'm all ears 👂!!

And also does anyone know how they pick up this parasite? It any one thing or a combination of things?

Thaaaaanks!

Do you know the strength of the Cocciprol?

There are instructions for giving Corid as a drench here, but the formulation that's available where you are might come in a different strength. If it's the Cocciprol powder I just found online that contains 200g/kg Amprolium, you can use the same dosage as for the 20% Corid powder.

Oh YES, I did read this post but it just went up and over my head! I can't actually him cause I have no scales atm. Which is why I wondering if anyone had just a basic, simple measurement 😅

Corid is the version of what you have that's most commonly used in the USA. Same drug, different brand name, basically. Here in the UK, people usually use a liquid version that's sold for pigeons and the strength of that is different to the strength of liquid Corid in the link I posted, which was why I asked.

Do you not have any type scales at all (kitchen scales, bathroom scales, a hanging luggage scale...)? Or any way to get or borrow some?

Personally I might try to guesstimate by kind of juggling the chick in one hand and stuff with a known weight in the other, if I thought the chick was likely to die without treatment and with a drug like Amprolium where (afaik) you aren't too likely to cause additional harm with a slightly higher dose. I'm not recommending you do that though but maybe @casportpony or another of the educators will be able to give more advice.

Oh, got you! That would make sense.

No not at the moment, I'm not one to weigh myself and I am out of town so anyone I can borrow from isnt around right now. And I have never heard of a hanging luggage scale, mainly because I dont travel that much.

I thought guesstimation was a possibly but I also read somewhere that too much Cocciprol could cause problems so I didnt want to overdose him.

Could you take a photo of him standing next to something that could give a sense of scale?

And are you sure of his age? He looks quite a bit younger than 12-16 weeks old, to my eye.
