Prolapsing vent

My Prairie Bluebell has a prolapsed vent. I put her in a warm bath for about 20 minutes, and then she started to freak out so I pulled her out, wrapped her up and tried to dry her a bit. I should mention that I did try pushing her vent back into place but she just kept prolapsing. She only seems to have gotten worse, and there are no avian vets in the area. She’s currently in a dog kennel in our enclosed back porch. Should I wait a few days and see if she gets better, or would it be best to cull her and put her out of her misery? I don’t want to give up immediately, but I definitely don’t want to prolong her suffering.

Keep it clean with soaks and keep trying to put it back in. It will take several days before it will stay it. Also keep it moist with ointment, preparation H might also help.
I have a hen that’s prolapsed twice, the first time I got it to stay in after 4-5 days, the second time it wouldn’t stay in so I had a vet put a stitch in it.
You may also want to separate her in a dark place to keep flock mates from pecking and discourage laying. Very survivable, it actually didn’t seem to bother my hen at all (freaked me out though).

How is she doing?

I would also give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for a week. The Extra Calcium can help with retention.

Soaking can stress them out quite a bit, so I would avoid it if possible. If you need to clean her up, you can just spray off the tissue.

Prolapsed tissue often will not go back in until some swelling goes down, this can take a few days, so keep the tissue coated with ointment or oil.
