Hello everyone! I just had a chick suddenly die on me a day after being perfectly fine, I immediately disinfected the brooder, feeder and drinker before placing back the healthy chicks.

The chick that died was eating, running around and behaving normally but this morning he was all fluffed up and lethargic, I immediately gave him some medicine as well as some boiled egg yolk but sadly he did pass away shortly after. I've dealt whit Coccidiosis before, so the symptoms did seem very similar.

I'd just like a second opinion, I've attached a picture of one of my other chick's droppings in hopes of maybe helping in diagnosing what may be wrong with them.

Thank you to anyone willing to help!

I would treat for coccidiosis if they were mine. How old are they? Have they been outside/on the ground yet? Or do you have birds outside and some cross-contamination could have occurred? People will say that they can't possibly have coccidiosis before they touch the ground, and in theory, I'm sure that is correct. But it's easy to bring contaminated soil in on hands, shoes, clothing, etc. Someone that used to be on this site had her chicks get coccidiosis twice while still in the brooder.

I'll be transparent and say that I'm very new to chickens, and I'm definitely no expert. But I think I'd rather treat than not. Especially with the way you described the chick you lost. But I'm sure others will chime in soon.

I definitely think they might have eaten something that might have been contaminated, that's my theory as well, since I let them out during the day to get some sun.

I believe they're all about a month old now, so that would explain why one just keeled over and died a day later. I'm definitely going to treat for Coccidiosis because that's the most common issue in my area.

Same. I had not had my birds in the coop but a week when they got coccidiosis. I was so upset. But I treated them, 2 rounds actually, and everyone made a full recovery. It's also very common here due to our hot and humid climate.

I'm really sorry you lost your little one. I've lost 3 (not to coccidiosis, all to other issues), and it's not fun. I hope the rest of your babies do great.

Thank you ❤️ I'm sorry you also had to go through losing babies. It never gets easier! I'm hopeful that the rest will be fine. I do have 2 that are a bit puffed up and not feeling great but I think they'll bounce back! Just need to hope and give them tons of tlc ❤️

Absolutely. With treatment and love, they should bounce back. I'll continue to check in. ❤️
