Hi all,

We are VERY new to backyard chicken raising. We have a new flock of three Cochin Bantams, one of which we've just learned is a rooster since he cock-a-doodle-doo'd this morning for the first time (the white one, though the black and gold one may be a rooster too). At the moment, he is a total sweetie, in fact, he's the most docile of the flock (let's us pick him up, follows us around, etc.).

We hate to bring him back to the poultry farm. We are trying to decide whether to keep him, with a No-Crow Rooster Collar. But, I have some questions/concerns:

--has anyone tried the No Crow Collars? Do they work?
--Are cochin bantam roosters aggressive, either to people or hens?
--Is it too hard on our two hens to have a rooster copulating with them all the time? (I've heard it's best to have 8-10 hens per rooster)
--Anything else we should consider?

Thanks!

Others have also just said that the black & gold chick is also a rooster (cockerel). Alas!! Two out of three is not a good situation… and we're already attached!
