Hi all, I've read that cochins tend to feather out a lot slower than other breeds. I'm wondering how slow is too slow.

I have a blue cochin that's almost 2-weeks old. All of her brooder mates are growing out their wing feathers as you'd expect. Brunhilda, on the other hand, has none. She's still all floof. As a result, she's spending a lot of time under the heat plate while the others are moving about, perfectly comfortable. In the photo, she's the little burnt marshmallow and the one behind her is a salmon faverolles that's a couple of days older and the frizzle EE to her right is the same age.

That's a good point. I honestly have no idea. She's my first and only cochin. She's roughly the same size as the frizzle EE and a little smaller than the speckled sussex (also the same age).

Update on my poor little Brunhilda. At exactly 2 weeks, she was no bigger than the day I brought her home and she passed away this morning. I buried her deep beside the peach tree. I suspect failure to thrive. She was eating and drinking but she just wasn't growing at all - at 2 weeks she was still all floof with no feathers.

RIP Brunhilda
