Cochin color question... what will this cross produce?

Tim,
Very good explanation...
I have said at times..."If I am going to get serious about these cochins, I better start studying"
Guess what...
I have not.

As much as it fascinates me, I get lost in the jargon and lose interest..
I wish it was as easy as white to red makes a pink!

Many serious cochin breeders pick a color and stick with it. They are after that perfect black, blue, white, etc. cochin and cull many chicks and adults in order to duplicate what qualities they are after. That seems like watching paint dry to me. Everyone has different goals in mind and different routes appeal to different folks.
I enjoy keeping several colors for the variety.
At times I get curious as to what will be produced when colors cross up.

Thanks for clearing up some very muddy water especially for a rookie like myself.
It's like my daddy always said... if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!
Most all of my birds are hatchery quality anyway. I may change course down the road but for now I think I just may cross up a few, raise some chicks and see what I get.
I love these forums,,,,, you learn so much from people willing to help everyone out! What a great country and hobby!

Well said! Hey- I'm going to be doing some color experimenting with my cochins (in Spring) and maybe even do some crosses to Orp and back. Isn't there a "buddy list" on here? I'd like to see your results, and maybe we could swap ideas.

I know this is an old thread but it came up in a search and I figured those that are in the thread might be able to answer my question. I have a bantam mixed breed roo. He was sold to me as a cochin cross but seller received him from another seller in a trade and doesn't really know his background. I also got a mixed breed hen with him of questionable background. We put eggs from this pair and also eggs from our roo with a bantam birchen cochin under a broody. 3 chicks are all black and 2 are black/white. We put 3 eggs from each hen under the broody so we're not really sure whose egg didn't hatch. They're very similar. Anyway, was wondering if any of you could take a stab at what the chicks' plumage might look like when they mature? I tried using the basic fields in the kipenjungle calculator and came up with all blue or black birds with gold birchen necks but I'm really a dunce at using that and I don't see any blue chicks so there's that 🤷 Attaching some pics of the parents...I don't have any good pics of the chicks as they just finished hatching today and i'd like to wait a bit to take them out for photos but I nabbed a couple of 2 of the chicks when my daughter held them.
