So far I stick to BBS because I understand those genetics. (The little info graphic photos across the internet help out!
) I also absolutely love Splash so generally stick with breeding groups that will get me Splashes or Blues. I do have the odd Black Cochin however they tend to take over the entire flock colour wise if I let them mingle so I keep them separate.

Last year I got a Partridge pullet and what looks like 2 Silver Laced cockerels. Somewhere in my reading I think I read that black can help bring out colour patterns 50% black/50% patterned. Now I know nothing about my black birds other than they're in the BBS group
and the Partridge and SLs are from a hatchery so no clue what recessive and dominant stuff is coming with them.
The blacks have good form and great feathering so that alone is really going to help out the hatchery birds. And just because it's fun to see what does hatch, I'll probably stick them together anyway if I have enough separate pens. But I'm just curious if I am remembering what I read right or if anyone might have a link to a good source about breeding patterns to black birds. Google is not being entirely helpful.
The pens would end up being - And what I think this might produce.
Black Cochin Rooster x Partridge Cochin Pullet = 50% Black, 50% Partridge
Silver Laced Cochin Cockerel x Black Cochin Hens = 50% Silver Laced, 50% Black
Please let me know if that sounds realistic or, more likely, that I'm way out to left field
Also, I'm assuming any black chicks from such crossings are going to be carriers of the partridge or laced genes, correct?
