Cochin Question (and flock renewal question.)

Have you thought of getting an incubator and hatch some chicks yourself? Almost any chick will be a lot friendlier this way. However, my cochins and Ameraucaners are from a different planet and so friendly. I hatched them in my incubator....and their personality is so different than any hatchery chick I had before.....

I would love to hatch out my own babies, but my mom won't let me. We have tried like 3 hatches (about 15-20 eggs each) and only had one duck and 2 chickens hatch out. The duck had a stroke right after being born and another chick hatched out with a big knot on his head and died after hatching. She doesn't want me to do it because she doesn't want any more to come out deformed. I think I know what the problem was though. I am using an LG still air and I set it on my dresser. The dresser was right next to a vent, so when it kicked on it probably caused temperature fluxuations.

Well I have 3 Partridge Cochins 1 Splash and 1 Black. The black hen is pretty socialbe and can be caught with a short chase. But if you want a really social bird I would go with Polish Cresteds. Mine are always at my feet, following me around. I have one I can pick up and pet and likes to have its treats hand fed to it which I dont mind. Well good luck. Also my cochins lay fairly large eggs from tinted brown to dark.
