Just found out my egg layer is a roo...want to make sure I am not wrong with another one!

My favorite of my six chicks is Eleanor, a cochin silkie cross. Is it too early to sex Eleanor? "She" is about 5-6 weeks old. We can only keep one roo, so I want to prepare myself.

Not sure if the pics provide the information needed.
Any thoughts??
"She" is pretty round, but has a little comb...does that help??
THANK YOU!!!

It is a bit early to tell, but I'm not seeing anything that indicates rooster right now. I usually go by hackle and saddle feathers rather than comb development and your baby hasn't gotten all of those feathers yet. Post some more pics in a few weeks!

It may be a little early to tell but I was able to tell on my cochin chicks at 4 weeks old that I had a little roo growing. His comb and wattles were very red and much more developed than the hen.

With that said, I am going to guess she looks like a she right now.

It looks like Eleanor is a female, since her comb doesn't appear to look thick like most roo's have at that age. She's cute by the way.

I had a silkie named Elenore! (It's such a beautiful name for a chicken, isn't it?) But sadly she died due to a hawk just last summer.
