BBS (Blue Black Splash) Marans - Pumperkinz

But to answer your question. I have my OG line tagged by the state for the NPIP w/ numbers so I track them that way.

These new ones I'm going to do the permanent bands in about two weeks. Plan is to make sure they standout, and easier to guide.

I'm also in the process to sourcing a shed to house the geese + two chicken coops with a three run split design. So I'll have my OG BCM's, The Cedar + Greenfire. The BCM's so far have good hackle and posture I think. They were hiding in the brush because we have canadian geese flying over near a lake, and the rooster alerts to every single one as if it's a hawk lol.
When we first got our three at 7 1/2 weeks, the Easter Egger alerted to the American Airlines commuter CRJs when they flew over. Fortunately, she has decided that they’re not a menace.

We are in the flight path for all international flights in our area. So he does tend to call for anything. Half the time im glinting and like DUDE it's a AIRPLANE. Rather him call then not I guess

Well that's strangely easy.

I'm just spit balling an idea here, but it might be a good idea to do separate hatches from both groups until you get your selections down and then start pairing the 2 groups together. You'll get some Black out of your Cedar Blues, so you'll have your 3 colors there.

Texas? Is this Copper Hill by chance?

Looking forward to the pics.

Good packaging + great communication. Honestly my best hatch rate out of all the birds.

Honestly good stock so far. 4/5 of the BCM's had the gold neck dots.

Interesting enough the blues from Cedar also had the gold dots on their necks too. (Maybe just chance, but I'd like to think good quality).

Cleaned up and kicked out the broodies trying to hatch more today. Some of them had hidden all these in the litter of the coop lol. I was wondering why 3 of the BCM's stopped laying well this is whyyy.

Anyway molt seems to be going on for half the group, so I assume the other half is about to start and lots of feathers going to poof.

@wrathsfarm this is the ghost barred boy Cedar gave me. Only one w/ barring so far. Very pretty guy.

The other BCM's I have were hiding but I'll grab some more later today maybe with my tripod if I can :). Need to also take more of the Sebbies, they are getting big.

They're so beautiful! Your project is fascinating. I've got 4 BBS Orpingtons coming at the end of September from Meyer. 1 male and 3 females. Then in the spring, I'm going to buy some straight run chicks from a wonderful local breeder of Orpingtons. Also BBS, but maybe some others as well.

My plan is to breed the BBS, but also to eventually cross them with other Orpingtons. I've also got a Red Cochin bantam and 2 other bantam Cochins that might be Partridge. They're all less than 5 weeks (the 2 new ones only 1 week), so I'm not sure of their genders or even color on the youngest 2, but hoping to cross those as well. I've got a male Porcelain d'Uccle and a new Mille Fleur d'Uccle. Fingers crossed she's female, then I'll cross them. The genetics of chickens is fascinating to me, and I'm looking forward to learning more.

I've only had my birds for 4 weeks this Saturday (just got the new ones on Sunday), but they've brought me immense joy already.
