I have 3 cochin pullets about 17 weeks old. These girls have had me stumped since day 1 on their color. They were almost identical to my three black cochin pullets early on and only feathered out with some "spots".

Now that they are older, it is getting a little easier to see their colors and markings.

Are these considered cuckoo? Does that even exist? Or are they just badly barred?

And are they black or blue? You can compare their color to my black Jersey Giant cockerel and pullet.

Another picture to show closer.

Anyone? if they are not a certain color variety.....how would you make this color?

they are just poor barred cochins...but just so you know, Barring & Cuckoo are the same pattern, Barring is on a K slow feathering bird (like a Rock) Cuckoo is on a k+ fast feathering bird. looks like your bird are missing Co...Both K & Co are segregated in the best exhibition Barred Rock

They're not poorly barred. They'll look better after they're fully grown. You should see my dumpy partridge cochins at 3 months! Cochins are slow to develop- and I have found that patterned ones seem to look even worse as they're growing up.

Well, they do seem to look more barred the older they get. They are so cute, they are definitely some of my favorites. Even if they are a little "slow". One of them "peeped" until 12 weeks old.

I know they are slower to mature.....when can I expect them to "finish" out their feathering?
