Thanks BlueMottie they dont really look like any of those though. Im pretty sure the others are Columbian cochins except for the 1st pic. Thats the one im not sure about
They look like Columbian that had Silver Penciled or Silver laced bred into them maybe a generation or two back even, but not pure colored Columbians as columbians shouldnt have any coloring on the backs, just the necks and tails. And they are not pure Silver Penciled as someone suggested.
They ARE NOT penciled. Maybe Silver Laced but they are not penciled...but maybe the younger ones are. As soon as some of the feathers develop i guess i will be able to know but id like to know now.
Right, so...I know I'm reviving this thread from the dead here, but I was wondering if you have some updated pictures, Kovalciks Chickens? It's been exactly one month and one day.
I read through this thread awhile back, and I agree with Blue Mottie - they DO look pretty Columbian...and there have been a LOT of "smutty", or mismarked, Columbians floating around all the swaps here in Wisconsin and Michigan lately. I've been seeing them everywhere.
Anyways, here are some of my Columbians as chicks (these guys came from a breeder in Pennsylvania) - they DO start out pretty wonky-looking...they don't start out all crisp and clean patterned:
And here's a little time-elapse example of how two of those chicks matured:
(His wings don't actually droop like that, he was just ticked off at me for making him pose!
)
By the way - did your Columbians come from shelleyb1969? If they did, I know they'll turn out just gorgeous! I'm hoping all my little Columbian cockerels fill out to be just as pretty as her roo!
