I have a feeling these might mostly be roos but thought I'd get other opinions. I'm also wondering if anyone has ideas on breeds (they are most definately mixed) I can't even begin to tell what breeds are involved as ChooksinIowa and I donated some eggs to a preschool and then split the chicks that hatched. She took all the ones that were obvious roos at the time (barred birds) and my banties. I kept these guys hoping there might be some good brown egg layers in the mix. The only two roos I know for sure she still has right now are a red laced cochin and an RIR, but she hads GADS of breeds. They were hatched on May6-7.

Chick #1 Black and White, wierd mulberry comb:

Chick #2 "Boston Cream Pie" White, cream and black speckled:

Chick #3 Red with black head and blue buttocks, feathered feet, muff (I'm thinking red - laced cochin X EE) - there are two of these

Chick #4 same as chick number three - comb is only difference:

Chick #5 Maybe the only pullet, pretty red and brown bird but wild as all get-out:

Here she is running away:

Thanks for any opinions

I am not sure of breeds. Mine are about 7 weeks also, and none of them have the deep reds that yours do... I am thinking you are right about the amount of roos you have. Only one looks like it might be a girl...

But, like I said, these are my 1st batch, and I am majorly rooster fearing, myself...
I have 2 girls like your last one, that are colored the same, and both have the same flighty temperament. Does this one sound like an eagle when it screams? One of mine does, and I sometimes joke that we have a hawk instead of a chicken.

They are pretty, whatever they are.

I'll be subscribing to this to see what answers you get. Good luck!

I'm agreeing with you that the only one that looks like a pullet at this point is the last one.

As for what breeds make up their heritage, it looks like a mixture of Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Easter Eggers, and maybe some Cornish judging by the comb and chunky-look of the first one.

ETA: Oh, and there is probably some Cochin, Brahma, or Faverolle in there somewhere because I see feathered legs now.
