Cockatiels

We have lots of cockatiels and absolutely adore them. Is he tame? Cinnamons are beautiful.
He is not tame. And he is my first bird (besides chickens and ducks). I know I am taking on a lot, but I have lots of attention to give him and I have researched intensely on training. Any tips? He is stunning.

Just spend lots of time next to his cage initially just talking and letting him get used to you. It won't take him long to realise you are his new best friend. They are addictive little birds (we have way too many but we love them).

The best, first thing to teach him is "step up" When he gets used to you, tell him to "step up" while putting your finger against his chest. Give him a little treat when he does it. Repeat it for a little while then give him a break. Do this every day and soon he will be your best friend!

I am excited! I bought spray millet for training today. :)
I will keep everyone updated!

How big is his cage? which one did you buy?

I know that birds need much bigger cages than people think.

Good luck, I'd love a bird but I'd prefer a quiet one. My dad almost bought a bird a few years ago, then realized all the "cool" ones live 50+ years. Told him he could adopt a old one but he decided it wasn't actually a good idea

I have a Conure flight cage about a 61´´. Also, I have millet, pellets, fruits & veggies for chop, lots of toys, paper for the poo tray, stainless steel food & water bowls, cuttlebone, cuttlebone holder, ladders, natural perches NO dowel perches, and more. :)

Thanks!

He will be out of his cage whenever I am home. Which is a lot because I work and school from home. :)
