Hi all,
Apologies in advance if I’ve posted to the wrong topic.
We have a backyard flock of bantams of all descriptions (photos attached), who we love dearly and free range around our suburban home. They have a coop that they go into at night to roost, and otherwise have free run of our yard, taking great glee in feasting on my veggie garden. We are also in the process of purchasing an acreage where they will transition too, however there will be far more predators there so we will get them an enclosure and they will only free range when we are home.
We are looking to add a puppy to our family, I have had a cocker spaniel as a child who was beautiful, but I distinctly remember my Dad getting mad because she killed our chickens for fun, she had no interest in eating them.
We are looking at a rough collie also, because from all accounts they are lovely, sweet dogs that can get along with all animals, including chickens.
My question is: Does anyone have experience with either of these breeds being around chickens? Specifically being left alone with chickens.
I completely understand that it is dependant on breed, training and prey drive. I am just curious to know if anyone has managed to train either of these breeds to coexist with chickens.
Thank you in advance for all of your help
