Cocker spaniels and chicks

I have a golden retriever. She is very interested in the birds. Whenever we have them out, the golden is right there, but lays down with her head on floor. My Australian shepherd is afraid of the chickens and runs from them. I doubt my golden retriever would go after the chicks. I would never leave them alone together though.
