This seems to be an age-old topic. All my new pullets are the same age. This picture is several weeks old. I noticed today, Dolly has full wattles and a rather large comb. Please tell me I am NOT going to have fertilized eggs!!! I only have one of her kind.

L to R: Sacajawea (EE), Dolly (Golden Lace Wyandotte, Goldy and
Gilda (Buff Orps), Pocahontas (EE), Lacy (Silver Lace Wyandotte).l
I could probably stand a rooster since mine free-range, however, I don't think I want fertilized eggs. That seems to risk more icky stuff in my eggs. Thoughts?????

Some breeds develop at different rates. All mine are the same age and one developed a redder comb and waddles at an earlier age than the others. Still no crowing yet at 18 weeks.

you can sort of tell becuse cockerels will have bigger combs and wattles then pullets and are bright red while pullets tend to be pale

hope you figure out what gender they are

There isn't a difference in fertile eggs vs. sterile eggs. You can't "taste" the difference or anything like that. If you can tolerate the crowing, and if it's allowed in the neighborhood, enjoy your rooster too. They are cool to watch, impressing the ladies and dancing. I kind of like the rooster we have right now. He's a good guy.
