Where are you seeing that he had a good life?
Ditto on the lack of space. Without free ranging, two would be cramped in there. If you want six, the coop needs to be at least 24 square feet, and the run would need to be like 1000 square feet to keep the plants alive and the chickens happy. Most would say 60 square feet in the run would be okay, but then there would be NO plants, and the chickens would be horribly bored and could start fighting.
Where did I ever say I wanted 6? I said the coop said it was able to hold 6 chickens, but my research said you usually have to halve the number you can put in them. So I had hoped for 2 -3 only and always planned on extending the run but they are not in their final place yet as our garden is having work (whole lawn being dug up as previous owners had bamboo). Also I figured it was enough space for now as they aren't fullu grown. Lastly I am looking at runs I can put out to let them forage etc when I'm there but don't have anything yet. I was just saying they would be able to free range and have all of our garden like I'd hoped, as its a big garden.
So I guess he isn't going to have a bad life like you're implying. I do actually care about how much space they have and I'm working on that but they are only 9 weeks old!
I wasn't ever really asking about how much room they need, I have looked this up and will be addressing. I merely mentioned the coop as I wish I'd got a walk in one so I could spend more time seeing as my idea they would free range is not going to be a reality unless I want to subject them to the foxes that live at the bottom of the garden.
Sorry if this is shirty but your opening line isn't very polite.
